What is Counselling?
Counselling is proven to help people in distress. Someone would access counselling due to a problem in living. This might include low mood or depressive illness, anxiety, stress, bereavement, low self-image and confidence, relationship difficulties and surviving abuse. There are many other reasons for seeking out a counsellor.
It is a series of face-to-face meetings in which a confidential discussion can take place. The therapeutic value of counselling is in the atmosphere of trust, attentiveness and valuing that is offered. It can be a corrective emotional experience.
How Do I Work?
As a counsellor I will work with you to identify your goal(s) for counselling. We can then collaborate over solutions and tasks to help you work towards achieving this. I tailor my style to suit yours as different therapeutic methods work for different people at different times.
My main theoretical approaches are narrative, solution-focused and cognitive-behavioural therapies. I incorporate these in a pluralistic framework for counselling. This means I can make suggestions for how to address the problem you are experiencing.
At all times I respect that you are the expert on you, and that you have the capacity for self healing. Counselling is a process that can unlock that self expertise.
My time working as a student counsellor has meant working with people in time-limited manner. I have supported people to make positive change in a short period of time. This can mean a saving for you with a minimal number of sessions required.
How Do You Prepare for Counselling?
Essentially I will talk you through how the sessions work in our consultation. You may wish to think about the problem that brings you to counselling before you arrive. However, do not worry. I will ask the necessary questions so that we can arrive at a joint understanding.
All you need to do is call or email to arrange your initial consultation appointment. We can take it from there.
"I’d been dealing with anxiety and depression for a while and had seen Ally...He was the first counsellor I actually felt comfortable talking to and I was never nervous to tell him anything. Every step of my treatment was explained to me properly and my progress was well-charted. I’d 100% recommend Kingdom Counselling to anyone who feels like they’re struggling. Ally does fantastic work."
